Aswan is Nubia Egypt's sunniest, southern city and ancient frontier town.
It is the most beautiful setting on the Nile; the pace of life is slow and relaxing. Here the Nile is at its most beautiful, flowing through amber dessert and granite rocks, round emerald islands covered in palm groves and tropical plants. Visit the Nubia Museum, it houses 3000 rescued artifacts representing many different eras: The Aswan Cultural Center where, every night Nubian dancers and musicians perform while folklore troupes recreate scenes from village life and perform the famous Nubian Mock Stick-fight dances: Take a felucca to a Nubian Village where you can meet and mingle with local people and share in their culture: Tour the world famous High Dam, it was an engineering miracle when it was built in the 1960's. Today it provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt. There are several day trips from Aswan by land, boat or air including Kom Ombo, Edfu, Abu Simbel and Nubia, Once the ancient kingdom of Kush; Nubia is the stretch of land next to the Nile from Aswan down to Khartoum in the south.
